Referees

Interested in refereeing? Please complete this Volunteer Interest form.

Volunteer referees are essential for our program. Each fall season, we need 60+ referees to run hundreds of games for players ages 5 to 19.

Parents, relatives, friends, and youths (12 year old and over) can serve as AYSO referees:

  • No prior experience or knowledge of soccer is needed. All volunteers are trained, certified, equipped, and mentored to be great referees.
  • Each 7U and 8U team needs to have at least one 8U referee.
  • Each 10U and 12U team needs to have at least one Regional referee.
  • AYSO is a safe space. Negative behavior that has been traditionally allowed or condoned in other leagues is rejected and actively disallowed in our league.

YOUTH REFEREES::

  • You may satisfy middle-school and high-school community service requirements by refereeing AYSO games.
  • Are you looking to make some $money$? AYSO is a great training ground to eventually earn $ as referees in USSF leagues. We give you free gear, free training, national certifications, and, most importantly: lots of practice and mentorship to hone your skills.
  • You will be part of our Youth Referee Program, run by experienced youth referees, where you will meet and share experiences with other youth referees, among other fun activities.
  • Refereeing helps develop leadership, communication, and mediation skills, it looks great on college applications and résumés.
  • Players improve their game by becoming referees: they gain deep knowledge on the Laws of the Game and learn about the dynamics of the game by watching games from the best "seat" in the house.
